BOTOX Table of Contents

What is BOTOX?

BOTOX is made from a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum and works by reducing activity in the tiny muscles in the face responsible for the repetitive contractions that lead to wrinkles. As a neurotoxin, BOTOX is best administered by a board-certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Zampell, who carefully and conservatively tailors her technique to the patient’s unique facial contours.

BOTOX is FDA-approved for treating moderate to severe facial wrinkles and lines such as frown lines, crow's feet, laugh lines and more. In addition to its cosmetic uses, BOTOX is often prescribed for hyperhidrosis, or excessive underarm sweating.

Who makes a good candidate for BOTOX?

Patients who are healthy both emotionally and physically and who are unhappy with age-related facial changes will be good candidates for BOTOX. BOTOX is a good solution for people who are suffering from wrinkles between the eyes, on the forehead, around their temples or around the neck. Facial sagging does not typically respond well to BOTOX treatment. Those who suffer from skin infections and those who are pregnant or breastfeeding will not be good candidates for BOTOX.
