What is a tummy tuck?

Despite strenuous efforts at the gym and a restrictive diet, it is not always possible to create the tight, toned appearance in the abdomen that you desire. In many cases, a surgical intervention is the only possible solution for long-term body contouring results.

The incision for a tummy tuck is placed in the pubic area where the scar is well-hidden by a bikini bottom or underwear. An incision around the belly button may also be required. The doctor will use the incision as an entry point to remove excess fat, skin and tissue while tightening the abdominal muscles (diastasis recti repair) that have become separated.

For more comprehensive body contouring, the tummy tuck can be combined with liposuction to help sculpt the flanks, love handles, hips and lower back. Dr. Zampell can create a personalized procedure that addresses all of your aesthetic concerns, tailoring her technique to accommodate your individual anatomy.

Who is a good candidate for a tummy tuck?

Healthy patients who desire abdominal contouring and a more streamlined lower torso will make excellent candidates for a tummy tuck, provided they are non-smokers with realistic expectations for their results. Women who have lost their figure due to pregnancy, as well as those who have recently experienced massive weight loss will benefit from abdominoplasty as well.

What will my recovery entail?

After surgery, Dr. Zampell will furnish you with an in-depth aftercare plan and the appropriate pain medications to ease your discomfort. You will be fitted with a compression garment, which aids in reducing post-operative swelling and keeps your new lower body shape intact.

The compression garment is typically worn for six to eight weeks. You will be encouraged to move around as soon as possible to promote circulation and healing, although strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be kept to a minimum for the first four to six weeks.
