What is liposuction?

Approved by the FDA for fat reduction, liposuction is one of the oldest and most popular forms of cosmetic body contouring. It can be used on multiple areas of the body to help streamline and sculpt the torso. Dr. Zampell uses cutting edge techniques that are tailored to each patient's specific body type and anatomy. Advanced technology means faster recovery times and less discomfort for the client.

Liposuction is performed using a slender tube known as a cannula. Incisions are placed in well hidden areas, and a tumescent fluid is infiltrated that helps to prevent bleeding in the fat as it is extracted. The tumescent liquid contains lidocaine and epinephrine, which work together to minimize postoperative bruising and swelling. Once the chosen area has been sculpted and trimmed, the incision is closed and recovery begins.

What are the benefits of liposuction?

  • Toned, tightened and streamlined body contours
  • Increased wardrobe options
  • Improved self-confidence and self-image
  • Cost-effective
  • Limited swelling and discomfort after surgery
  • Helps promote a more youthful aesthetic
  • Rolls back the clock on aging

Who makes the best liposuction candidate?

Liposuction is not considered a weight loss procedure, but rather a fat loss treatment. It is appropriate for those in good mental and physical health who are at a stable weight and who do not smoke. If you are looking to lose fat around the belly, thighs, love handles or lower back, liposuction may be an excellent aid in achieving your goals. It is also a great tool for sculpting the physique after massive weight loss. As with all surgeries, candidates should be realistic in their expectations for their results, based on a private consultation with Dr. Zampell at her Beverly Hills office.

What will my recovery be like?

Thanks to Dr. Zampell's meticulous, conservative technique, patients enjoy expedited recovery times and less discomfort. The doctor will offer you a personalized aftercare plan as well as pain medications to help combat mild bruising, swelling and soreness. A compression garment may be prescribed to help reduce swelling and keep the torso's new, improved shape intact.

A few days after your surgery, you can begin to move around and engage in light walking. This will help stimulate your circulation and improve your mood. Most clients return to normal activity within about seven days, resuming their full exercise routine at around six weeks. Dr. Zampell will conduct regular follow-up visits with you to ensure your recuperation is on track.
