What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are an innovative solution to many cosmetic problems facing patients who are concerned about wrinkles, lines, creases, folds and furrows, not to mention the hollowing effect of diminishing fat content.

Many dermal fillers are made with hyaluronic acid and collagen, compounds found naturally in the human body that begin to dwindle with advancing years. Fillers can be used in combination to effect significant improvements in the face and neck, with results often on par with surgical procedures.

Common dermal fillers

Some of the most common dermal fillers on the market include the following:

  • Restylane
  • Juvederm
  • Belotero
  • Sculptra

Dr. Zampell will complete an in-depth physical evaluation during your initial consultation, during which she will suggest the most appropriate dermal fillers for resolving your cosmetic issues.

What are the advantages of dermal fillers?

  • Non-surgical and non-invasive
  • Little to no recovery
  • Minor discomfort
  • No anesthesia required
  • Can help to reverse loss of facial volume
  • Can help combat wrinkles, fine lines, creases and folds
  • Creates a more youthful, engaging aesthetic overall
  • Can help restore satisfaction with your appearance
  • Many treatments are reversible
  • Can be used in combination to achieve a non-surgical facelift or blepharoplasty
  • Creates a smoother, more even skin texture

Who makes a good candidate for dermal filler treatment?

  • You are interested in anti-aging treatments, but are not ready for surgery
  • You are looking for subtle, natural results
  • You wish to be in and out of the office quickly
  • You are in good health, emotionally and physically
  • You are realistic in your expectations for outcome

Is there any recovery for dermal fillers?

Because treatment with dermal fillers is non-surgical, there is minimal to no downtime to speak of. Patients typically return to work and usual activities right away. If swelling or minor bruising occurs, it usually dissipates within 24-72 hours. Be sure not to rub or disturb the injection site for 24 hours, and take care to avoid contact with direct sunlight.
