What is breast reduction?

Overly large breasts can cause a host of problems, ranging from limited mobility and discomfort, to social withdrawal and self-consciousness. You may subconsciously find yourself limiting your wardrobe choices to hide your breasts, or find that you routinely avoid having your photo taken.

Breast reduction can help restore your image as well as your physical comfort. There will no longer be the chafing irritation from bra straps, and you will enjoy a wealth of new clothing options. Breast reduction surgery is performed using Dr. Zampell’s trusted techniques to minimize complications and create a beautiful, natural and long-lasting result. Incisions are well hidden within the breast crease. Fat and skin will then be excised, and the nipples will be moved to a higher, more youthful position.

What are the benefits of breast reduction?

  • Improved sense of ease in movement
  • Boost in self-confidence
  • More social enjoyment and pleasure
  • Greater range of wardrobe choices
  • Reduction in back, neck and shoulder strain
  • Improved posture and stamina
  • Lowered risk of infections and rashes
  • Renewed enjoyment of sports and outdoor activities

Who is a good candidate for a breast reduction procedure?

If you are being adversely affected by large, heavy breasts, and are complaining of strain, difficulty moving or poor posture, Dr. Zampell can perform a breast reduction to help restore your quality of life. You should be at a stable, healthy weight with a BMI of less than 35, and have the desire to decrease your breasts at least two cup sizes. All patients should be non-smokers of sound mind and body with realistic expectations for their surgical outcome.

What will recovery involve?

Dr. Zampell does not routinely use drains for moderate-sized breast reductions. Swelling, bruising and tenderness are normal after a major surgery but generally resolve over the course of a few weeks. For four to six weeks after surgery, you should avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise. Dr. Zampell will provide a thorough aftercare plan for you and will schedule timely follow-up visits to check on your recovery progress.
