What is eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, can be performed on both the upper and lower eyelids to remove excess fat and skin and combat common age-related changes. Drooping upper lids and puffy eye bags on the lower lids can be addressed during the same surgery.

During upper lid blepharoplasty, a tiny incision is made in the natural creases of the eyelid through which the fat, skin and tissue can be removed or redraped to address drooping or vision problems. Lower lid blepharoplasty often can be performed from inside the eyelid or may require an incision in the lash line. Skin, fat, and tissue can be removed or redraped to improve bags and discoloration.

Who is a good candidate for eyelid surgery?

Blepharoplasty is an excellent solution for anyone who is unhappy with the way that the aging process has affected the appearance of their eyes. If you are frustrated by a tired, droopy eyelid appearance, lower or upper blepharoplasty may be right for you. All patients undergoing surgery should be in good emotional and physical health, with no major medical concerns. They should be non-smokers, who are realistic in their expectations for the outcome of the procedure.
